International focus returned to Iran this week as the EU levied heavier sanctions on Iran and as the General Director of the IAEA, Yukiya Amano, pointed to Iran as the top concern of the IAEA for 2012. In response to growing concerns over Iran’s nuclear program, the European Council banned imports of Iranian crude oil, petroleum, and petrochemical products. Existing contracts have until July 2012 to be completed.
