The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and Hamas recently signed a reconciliation agreement in Qatar in which the parties agreed to participate in a unity government controlling the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. PNA President Mahmoud Abbas and the leader of Hamas Khaled Meshaal committed to announcing an new interim government soon and to setting a date for presidential and legislative elections sometime in 2012.
